The average child would live with their parents, have 3 sisters and a brother in a 3 story house. Because they had 2 spare attic rooms 2 war resistance fighters were billeted with the family and their rent and rations helped to feed the occupants of the house. Food was scarce and rationing affected the family although they didn't starve as they had all the basics, but there were no luxuries like bananas.
